NeoGraft® Hair Transplant

neograftNeoGraft® is a minimally-invasive follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair replacement method that safely harvests individual hair follicles and transplants them to areas affected by hair loss. This innovative hair transplant technology is the most advanced method on the market today. NeoGraft leaves behind no scars, includes a mere 48 hour recovery rate, and has a 92-98% success rate. Once the transplant process is complete, your own natural hair growth takes over.

A Solution for Hair Loss

Our FUE hair restoration method removes individual healthy hair follicles from the posterior scalp and transplants them to affected areas. The transplanted hairs will likely fall out and the hair follicles will enter a hibernation stage for about four months. After that, the follicles regenerate a new hair and grow as if they had never been moved. Once the transplant is complete, the follicles will grow on their own indefinitely, maintaining their genetic cycle. Patients require only one treatment.

Our hair transplant technicians, trained in our NeoGraft® methods, have over twenty years of experience collectively. We have two technicians in the surgery room at all times to assist Dr. Arthur. Our team handles the hair follicles as least as possible to encourage the success of FUE transplants. We look at your hairline, your preferred hairstyle, your hair loss progression, and your future hair loss – all because we care about your overall look.

What is NeoGraft® Hair Replacement?

NeoGraft® is the first FDA-approved automated medical device for hair restoration. Using a single platform, it facilitates the harvesting of follicles during a follicular unit extraction (FUE). The highly ergonomic mechanical NeoGraft® device works as a natural extension of the surgeon’s hand, rendering more accurate harvesting of hair follicles. The entire procedure requires less time that alternative hair transplant procedures and requires less than a week of recovery.

“When I discovered NeoGraft®, I thought, This makes sense. I followed it through its FDA-approval, made sure the results left minimal scarring, and then was the first to bring it to Rochester.” ~ Dr. Arthur

Restoration of Hair Plugs

Some patients experienced an outdated method of hair transplants known as hair plug surgery. During this procedure, multiple 3-4 mm pieces of tissue that contained about 20 follicles of hair were removed from the donor site and transplants to circular “punches” in the balding area. This method typically left random patches of baldness. The NeoGraft method can correct the results of hair plugs; Dr. Arthur and her hair clinic team transplant individual hair follicles surrounding the hair plugs to create even hair regrowth patterns, restoring a normal, healthy look.

FUE vs. Strip Method/Linear Harvesting

What is the strip method, also known as linear harvesting? The physician uses a scalpel to remove strips of hair from the patient’s posterior scalp and then stitches the exposed area closed. Although harvesting the strip is quick, the techs then have to dissect that strip to get the grafts, which is exceedingly time-consuming. Unlike the FUE method, linear harvesting and the strip method leave behind deep scars in the back of the head that are difficult to hide.

With the NeoGraft® method, the grafts are ready to place the moment they are removed from the posterior scalp. Since the follicles don’t need any sort of manipulation, the success rate of FUE is much greater than any other hair transplant method. Patients then have the option of wearing short haircuts, since they won’t have scars to hide.

What to Expect with NeoGraft® Hair Transplants

Before your hair restoration surgery, your physician cleans your scalp and numbs the posterior part of your head with a medicine injection. He or she then removes hair follicles individually from the back of your scalp. The area where the hair follicles will be placed is cleaned and numbed. Your physician creates tiny grafting holes or slits sporadically throughout the target area. Each of the grafts is carefully placed into the openings prepared for them.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Your physician may instruct you to grow your hair to a certain length prior to your hair restoration treatment so the site will be hidden by the hair around it. You should also discontinue taking vitamins and supplements one week prior to your treatment and follow all other pre-treatment instructions your physician gives you.

What Happens After the Procedure?

After your permanent hair restoration procedure, you’ll need to wear bandages over your scalp for a few days, as prescribed by your physician. You may also be prescribed an anti-inflammatory drug or antibiotic to minimize postoperative inflammation and reduce the risk of infection.

It’s normal for your scalp to be very sensitive in the days following your surgery. However, with pain medications, most people are able to resume their daily responsibilities and go back to work in as little as two days after the procedure.

Are There any Side Effects/Risks?

As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with hair transplants, including:

Your physician may prescribe antibiotics or compresses to minimize postoperative inflammation. He or she may also prescribe pain medications to minimize discomfort.

After your hair restoration procedure, you may lose some of the hair surrounding the treatment area. This is usually temporary and is called shock loss.
